Code of Conduct

CODE OF CONDUCT

Expectations for all students, parents, and guardians of pupils admitted to JH Dance Academy.

The aim of JH Dance Academy is to ensure that all students experience dance in a fun, friendly, positive, and safe environment. In order to achieve this, please take note of the following guidelines.

Any student unable or unwilling to gain from the education provided at the school may be asked to withdraw from the school after reasonable notice.

Rules and Regulations

Customer Incidents

JHDA takes pride in promoting a kind and uplifting environment, where we encourage our dance family to support each other by consistently being respectful. Aggressive, abusive, or anti-social behaviour is not tolerated from customers or students at any time, whether toward JHDA staff, visitors or other dance school customers or students.

Please conduct yourselves in an appropriate manner and respect JHDA’s staff, all visitors, and policies, at all times.

All customer incidents will be reported and investigated accordingly. Any customer incident reported to the principal may result in their account being suspended, with the possibility of being fully withdrawn from the Dance School. Serious incidents may result in immediate withdrawal from JHDA.

Punctuality

It is vital that students arrive in good time. Students who are late for class may miss important information and impede the learning of others.

Attendance

Regular attendance is extremely important. If students do not attend on a regular basis, then the development of the class and the individual student will be affected. Students’ attendance will be monitored as they prepare for their examinations and productions. Students who fail to attend classes and additional lessons may be withdrawn. We regret that it is not possible to make up missed classes by attending another class for which you are not registered.

Discipline

Students are expected to behave in an orderly, civilised, and well-mannered way and to show respect to their teachers, assistants, and other students who attend JHDA. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations may result in withdrawal. Bullying is not tolerated at JHDA.

Uniform

It is extremely important that students arrive dressed and ready for class in full JHDA uniform in order to be able to

work correctly and safely in class, and to present a neat and elegant appearance. We ask that all students (if hair

length permits) should have their hair in a neatly tied pony-tail, bun or headband for short hair. Boys hair should be

neatly styled and off the face.

All uniforms to be ordered through JHDA to ensure all dancers are wearing the same good quality

uniform. Please refer to JHDA’s uniform page on our website for specific details on what your child is expected to

wear and how to order: https://www.jhdanceacademy.co.uk/uniform.

No jewellery to be worn in class and all students must refrain from eating or chewing gum.

Changing

We ask that students arrive in the correct uniform, however, if they need to change clothing before or after class, please use the changing facilities provided at each venue with respect.

Toilets

Students should use the toilet before and after class to not disrupt their own or the learning of others during class. If the occasion should arise and a student needs to 'go', they will be excused from class. We operate a one at a time policy for the toilets. If your child requires assistance to use the toilet, we ask you stay on the premises, in view of the studio door, so if the need should arise, they can be sent out to you and you can take them.

Mobile Phones

The use of mobile phones in the changing rooms and classroom is strictly prohibited. Mobile phones must be left in students’ bags on silent.

Drop Off/Collection

Parents and guardians are asked to drop off their children a maximum of ten minutes before the start of their class and to stay with your child until they have gone into their class.

All classes are collected by an assistant or teacher from the main foyer and will be returned

to the main foyer.

At the end of each class, students are asked to line up at the studio door before they are dismissed. This is so the teacher can check everyone has all their belongings and to check everyone is going home with who they should be. Please be patient. We also advise parents discuss with their child that if in any event they, the parent, is not there at home time, the child should stay in the studio with their teacher.

Parents and guardians should come back five minutes before class end time to collect their child. It is important you are punctual to collect your child as teachers have their next class to teach, which may be in a different room or at an alternate venue.

Personal Property

Only essential personal property should be brought to class, e.g. mobile phone. JHDA cannot be held responsible if items go missing.

Fees

As per our Terms and Conditions, fees must be paid monthly via bank transfer on the 1st of every month. Failure to do so may result in withdrawal.

Safeguarding

JHDA have a ‘duty’ of care’ to provide a safe environment for and to promote the health and well-being of children under the age of 18 years and vulnerable adults.

JHDA take all reasonable steps to ensure that safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults is embedded in our contact with them through the training and activities we provide.

JHDA believes that the welfare of the child is paramount, and that all children and vulnerable adults regardless of age, disability, gender, race, sexual orientation or identity, or religious belief have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.

All JHDA staff undergo regular safeguarding training and hold valid advanced DBS checks.

All JHDA staff, customers, and students are expected to comply with the JHDA safeguarding policy. Failure to do so may result in withdrawal. Please report any concerns or incidents to the Dance School Principal, Miss Jenny at jenny.jhda@hotmail.co.uk.

First Aid

All JHDA teachers are qualified first aiders and will give necessary care in the event of an injury sustained in class. This will be recorded via an injury form, of which parents will be called into class to sign.

Visual and Social Media

JHDA regularly updates our social media platforms with important information about the dance school as well as posting photos/videos of students during classes, at community events and productions. We highly recommend that parents and guardians follow JH Dance Academy’s social pages.

If you do not wish for your child to be photographed or filmed, please inform the Dance School Principal, Miss

Jenny in writing. Please note: Students without photography/videography permission will be unable to take part in

our productions as these are photographed and filmed by an external, professional company.

Health and Safety

A record of who has attended class each week is taken by the class teacher at the start of every lesson.

Students should wear shoes, at all times, when walking around the building and make sure that ribbons and laces are tied properly. Outdoor shoes are not to be worn in the studios.

It is essential that students are in the right place at the right time – if late for class they may miss vital information, impede the learning of others, and place themselves at risk of injury should they miss the warmup section of the class.

It is important that students always keep themselves warm between classes in order to protect against injury.

Students should drink plenty of water and ensure they keep their energy levels up by eating a healthy snack in between classes. Students may bring water only into the studio in a sealed water bottle.

Any students who hurt themselves in class or feels unwell should tell their teacher or member of staff immediately. Appropriate first aid will be applied by the teacher and an Accident Report Form completed.

JHDA is a workplace, and respect must be given to all staff. There must be no running or shouting in the building.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises.

If the fire alarm sounds, students, parents and guardians, and visitors must make their way immediately to their nearest available Fire Exit and meet at the far side of the car park.

Parents and guardians are asked to drive with due care when dropping off and collecting their children from classes.

Children’s scooters, skateboards and roller skates must not be ridden/used anywhere on the premises.

Force Majeure – In the event classes are cancelled due to an incident out of reasonable control e.g. fire, utilities failure, teacher injury/sickness during class, parents will be emailed and called to notify you that your child needs collecting.
